Upcoming FRPN Webinar: State Approaches to Including Fathers in Programs and Policies

The 11th Fatherhood Research and Practice Network (FRPN) learning community webinar will feature presenters from Ohio, South Carolina and Kansas discussing how employment and fatherhood services are delivered in their states. The discussion will highlight the origin and role of fatherhood commissions; collaborations between child support agencies and fatherhood programs; funding and program sustainability; effective ways to engage fathers in the child support system; use of “enhanced child support services” (driver’s license suspension and state debt forgiveness); return on investment studies on fatherhood programs; and why and how other states might support fatherhood programs.

FRPN-funded Studies to be Presented at RECS

Several FRPN-funded researchers will present findings from their studies at the 2018 Research and Evaluation Conference on Self-Sufficiency (RECS) in Washington, DC, May 30 – June 1.

Dr. Jennifer Bellamy (University of Denver) will summarize findings from a randomized study of an intervention to increase father involvement in home visitation programs in Chicago. This multi-site clustered randomized control trial was conducted, beginning with 21 home visiting program supervisors across five large organizations, targeting approximately 200 families. Supervisors were randomized to deliver the curriculum Dads Matter enhanced services or home visiting services as usual. Those within the enhancement implemented the intervention through a train-the-trainer model.

Drs. Erin Holmes and Alan J. Hawkins (Brigham Young University) will present the findings of a comprehensive meta-analytic study. The meta-analysis includes evaluation studies of responsible fatherhood programs targeted primarily to unmarried or non-resident fathers.

FRPN Research Measures

FRPN’s new and original measures of fathers’ involvement with children and coparenting for low-income, non-resident fathers are published, available for use at no cost and are being used in several studies.
