News from the Fatherhood Research & Practice Network
The FRPN seeks to:
  • Promote rigorous evaluation of fatherhood programs.
  • Expand the number of researchers and practitioners collaborating to evaluate these programs.
  • Disseminate information that leads to effective fatherhood practice and evaluation research.
FRPN Funding
The response to our first requests for proposals (RFP) was extremely positive. The FRPN received 71 letters of interest (LOI) from researcher and program partners who requested nearly $7 million to conduct rigorous evaluations of fatherhood programs. These LOIs came from applicants located in 32 states and consisted of universities, nonprofit community-based organizations and public agencies. They also involved a wide-range of fatherhood programs and interventions including those conducted in conjunction with home visiting, co-parenting, prenatal care, workforce development, prisoner reentry and comprehensive human services agencies.

The FRPN has invited 17 of the 71 RFP applicants to submit full funding proposals. We plan to make final awards in the $100,000 range. The award winners will be announced after October 31 on the FRPN website. Learn more about FRPN funding opportunities here.

FRPN Technical Assistance Poll
The FRPN technical assistance (TA) poll is still open! We are seeking feedback from practitioners and administrators on the types of free TA services that would be most beneficial to the fatherhood field. Is it assistance in using management information systems? The development of measurement tools and research instruments for regular use by programs? An evaluation self-assessment tool?

FRPN Website Updates
Over the last few months, the FRPN project team has conducted eight focus groups with 70 fathers and five practitioners. We learned a number of things in these sessions to help develop theory and measurement tools to assess father involvement and co-parenting. The FRPN project team has now compiled recommendations for fatherhood programs to measure these two dimensions of fatherhood in this working paper.

A wealth of training and technical assistance resources are available on the FRPN website to help fatherhood programs integrate evaluation into their services. Click here to learn more.
