NCFR Webinar: ‘Good Night, Alexa’: How Families Are Impacted by the Use of Technology

Aug 2019

From the National Council on Family Relations:

Technology has become woven into every strand of our modern lives. Virtual assistants such as Siri, Alexa, and Google Home have become increasingly important. Humanoid robots have left the factory floor, moved into our homes, and even entered our bedrooms.

Although technology has revolutionized our daily living, Family Scientists have paid relatively scant attention to this subject. Furthermore, conversations about technology frequently focus on the technical functionality or problems technology might create, rather than on how to use the technology effectively to promote positive family dynamics.

In this webinar, presenter I. Joyce Chang, Ph.D., will highlight technological innovations that have changed communication, relationships, parenting, elder care, and sexuality. Dr. Chang also will discuss guidelines for better utilizing technology, looking at how families can reframe the use of technology to their benefit.

By attending the webinar, participants will be able to:

  • understand five technological trends that impact individuals, couples, and families;
  • evaluate the impact of technology through various theoretical perspectives; and
  • utilize five ways to understand the use of technology when working with individuals and families.
  • Intended Audience: Family Life Educators, therapists, college/university instructors, new professionals, students

Approved for 1 CFLE contact hour of continuing education credit. Register for the webinar at the link below.
