Upcoming Webinar: A Conversation with Researchers About Measuring Economic Security Outcomes in Fatherhood Programs
Date: Tuesday, May 17, 2016 Most fatherhood programs seek to improve economic security for participants and their children. This FRPN webinar will explore how outcomes, such as employment, earnings, child support payments and financial well-being, are measured using self-reports and agency records. The challenges associated with generating reliable information using each approach will be addressed. We will also discuss qualitative assessments of economic well-being that focus on stable housing, food security and other day-to-day indicators.
Speakers include: New FRPN Research Brief The FRPN project team regularly publishes research briefs to assist fatherhood practitioners and researchers in measuring and evaluating paternal engagement, coparenting and economic security. Our most recent brief, Measuring Financial Support Provided by Fathers in Fatherhood Programs, offers an overview of how fatherhood programs can measure formal and informal child support provided by fathers for their children. Measuring financial support can be challenging. This brief compares several measures that can be used to determine types of payments, frequency of payments and challenges fathers may face in adhering to child support orders. New FRPN Research Measure: The Coparenting Relationship Scale The FRPN Coparenting Relationship Scale is designed to assess fathers’ coparenting relationships with the mother of their non-residential children. This measure was validated with a sample of fathers very similar to those served in U.S. responsible fatherhood programs. Download the measure here. OPRE Funding Opportunity The Office of Planning, Research and Evaluation (OPRE) in the Administration for Children and Families, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently published a discretionary research-funding announcement — Family Strengthening Scholars. This funding will support up to three grants of dissertation research on healthy marriage/responsible fatherhood policy issues (HMRF). These grants are meant to build capacity in the research field to focus research on questions that have direct implications for HMRF policy decision-making and program administration. They will also foster mentoring relationships between faculty members and high-quality doctoral students. Up to $25,000 may be awarded for each budget period. Letters of intent are due by May 9, 2016 and applications are due by June 6, 2016. Learn more about this funding opportunity here. |
